Language diversity of India

India is one of the hotspots of linguistic diversity in the globe. It is high in language diversity (350 languages) and low in phylogenetic diversity (5 families). India is home not only to several dominant world languages but also to many small languages facing extinction. Language plurality of India attests the fact that no state is linguistically homogenous and a dominant language of one region may be a language of a linguistic minority in other region
